I know this will be a matter of pure opinion and that's O.K.

I always rub my pork butt but I thought about not doing it this time.

The last time I did chicken quarters I liked the ones w/o the rub better so I thought I'd try it on my butt.

What's everyone else's thoughts?

I just put a little CBP and some granulated garlic I'm not a real big fan of rubs that have 10000000 items in them, I just like the meat itself, not a bunch of stuff.   but then that is just me

I would at least hit it with a little salt and cracked pepper.

I personally have never done it but I'm sure someone around here has. Now give it a try and tell us how it comes out. You never know around here some of the craziest things get tried here.

My wife is the type of person that just like the taste of meat she does not want anything other then salt and pepper on her meat.

So I have to fix her meat separate.

But now me on the other hand like to experment with different rub and sau.

So do what ever it take to kept you and your wife happy

Give it a try and see what come out of it. Some of the attributes to a tasty bark do come out of the spices (rubs, mustard, brown sugar etc). That said I have nver done one without spices and you never know until you try.

You'll never know until you give it a try and since only you can answer which you prefer you need to give it a spin.

I enjoy using rubs and spices, but as we all know, smokin involves a lot of individual preferences and what suits your taste.  Give it a try and let us know how it goes.  Looking forward to some Qview!

Yea, I chickened out. I'm planning on having a lot of people over and don't want to experiment on them. They all love my pulled pork so I'm held to a "high standard" with the butt. Maybe when it's just the family I'll give it a try.
