My UDS Build

Discussion in 'UDS Builds' started by kandl, Aug 29, 2013.

  1. Well I'm hoping to get a good start on my UDS build this weekend.  Got a barrel and some of my parts.  I'll update more once I get started.  At the very least I'd like to get some holes drilled and the liner off this weekend.

That looks like it will work fine!!!  I really look forward to seeing the outstanding results!!!  Go get 'em!!!  [IMG]

  3. Thanks!  I'm still up in the air on the lid.  I'd like to find a kettle lid for it but they appear to be hard to find. It can always be an addition later.  My lid has two bungs in it. one larger one I plan to use for exhaust and a smaller one that I am not sure what to do with.  Probably just plug it.  I really like the idea of the shelf hanger strips for adjusting your rack height.  I'm considering that very heavily. I would also like to have a side shelf on mine and perhaps wheels to make it a little easier to move around.

  4. Got intake holes drilled and some more pallet cut up. Gonna be a fire this weekend![IMG][IMG]

I suggest a big poppa smoker basket.  Allows you to smoke and sear.

  7. Farmer I saw your thread I like that basket but I will probably make my own this build anyway. Depends on how big a hurry I get into :)

Going to be able to sear?

  9. Is there anything you wish you would have done different on yours?

    2  one inch valves

Going to upgrade to 2 one inch and 2 3/4 valves

  11. Ah yes I opted for two intake holes but have not got pipe or valves yet. I drilled two 3/4 for now just to burn it out. As for sear I'm not so worried about it because I have other grills for that but the shelf brackets for adjustment trick caught my attention.

Do 4 intakes.   2 one inch and 2 3/4 inch

  13. I can do that no problem. Right now I have two 3/4 straight across from each other for burn out. Need to get my pipe nipples and then go from there.

2 will not be enough for higher temps

You can get by with (3) 1". But anything less is not enough. If you're running 3/4" then you are going to need a minimum of 4.

    4   3/4 inch isnt enough

    At least for me.

  17. I can always add more and make bigger. would rather test and add as needed.

At least start with 4   3/4 inch.

  19. I have two ECB's and a reg charcoal grill so this is for smoke only. I even have an old cheap electric smoker that I want to use for cold smoking with an anmps this winter.
