Wrong on the bad smoke or ball valve?

The cook might be on hold then. Don't know when I will be able to get another valve.

Most have 4..for good reason. Heck my mini has 4 and I use them all. 3 will work but 4 is definitely better.
When I built mine the research I did showed that most had 3. Most the time I start with three open and start closing them off until one is around 3/4 open.

That is why mine only has 3.  They are equally spaced so where would I put the 4 th.

What size did you use?

No you don't need more than 3...BUT it makes things more efficient by lighting fewer coals... You're using more air to get up to temp faster then when you're up to temp just choke back by capping off.

Even on my mini I'll open all 4 get it hot fast and choke back... And I'll have half a basket left over because I didn't light bunch. Just because 3 will work there's no reason not to do 4.. There's benefit. My big poppa vents have more than the equivalent than 4.

There's also benefit to have one more be a ball valve vs a nipple.. It makes it easier, there is less capping and un capping

OK I will add a 4th but I can still use it until I get the other one and get it installed.

OH and after only one smoke the inside of my barrel is BLACK.  Normal after only 1 smoke?
