Just fill your basket up maybe half way high... You won't need a full one.   After you fill it just scoop out a handful of coals from the edge of the basket,  light them and put them back in the same spot you took them.

I love lighting with this method because when I'm done I always have fresh unburned coals left behind for the next cook... and the partial burnt are my starters the next cook.
How many is in a handful?  6-8 ?

You gester chester....  That's fine,  it'll heat it up...open all the vents and when you get to 250 then start choking it off some.  325 for the bird

Its gonna be burgers tonight.

Maybe chicken over the week end.

OK for burgers choke back about 200.... If it overshoots 250 it will come back down just be patient.   You'll figure out the controls pretty  fast

I hope you're planning on reverse searing them.. 250 until almost done (150 IT) then bring up the basket for the sear. Great burgers on the drum that way.

Might try the reverse sear.  Never done it before.

Slow cook as slow as you want...sometimes I'll go 200 degrees until it gets up to temp and then sear.... you're just allowing it to get more smoke

Dont put my fire out.

Sitting at 200 right now.  Taken awhile to get hot.

How long does it take these things to get hot?

I lite 8 coals and would like to get to 300 or so.

Its sitting around 240.

Maybe 20 minutes from go 2 show for me but I typically use my warming torch/ weed burner!   Start with all the air vents wide open... By lighting a few you won't over shoot...  It's all good!
