Only problem with black is, almost all of them are black.

After all this and paint too, I want it to be a little different. And if for some stupid reason I decide to actually try and cater or something, I would like it to stand out a little.

I think so, I need to get to the hardware store to get some material, I'm going for a simple handle, and inside it will close on a wedge , so the more you push down on the handle, the tighter it will get. I'm looking at something like that for the smoker door too, it sprung a little, but with a tight closing handle, I can pretty much pull it tight.

I should have it installed tomorrow

The fire box latch works, wedge piece inside box, 1/2 steel rod through door, 1/4" flange in side, 1 1/2 inch x 1/2 id tube and washer welded to rod on outside, Because of the wedge, the more you push, the tighter is closes. Still working out handles, this will be my artistic portion of the build, I have some nice teak left over that would make nice handles.

After much cutting and welding and burning various parts of my body, I have meat on the grill. Trying my bacon wrapped chicken.

Temp came right up to 300, running it on maple and apple. Trying to figure out what does what as far as regulating the temp, it's burning clean, not a lot of smoke. I guess I'll know in about 4 hours.

Bacon wrapped chicken from MY smoker!!! I was able to keep a decent 250-275 for 3 1/2 hours. It is interesting to note the flavor difference cooking over a stick fire (maple/apple) then the charcoal fire I have been using in the weber. I need a handle on the smoker door, a good way to keep it open and a good through the door thermometer. I don't really want to add weights. I am excited and have eaten well, this has been a fun project, I can't wait to get some paint on and make it pretty.

First try at a pork lion with a bacon wrap, about 3.5 hours at 230-250, internal temp 155

I'm impressed how well my pile of scrap yard rejects came out, and what I can do with it

Thank you, but I am far from mastering anything. I am having fun and would never have gotten as far as I have without the help and information I found here. So I thank all of you for the information and helping to make this possible.
