My new Smoke Hollow #8 44 Inch Smoker

    Just getting it ready to smoke my first Turkey this weekend and snapped a few pics of it.  The Smoker was originally LP and I converted it to Natural Gas since I already have a Quick Disconnect for my gas grill on the patio.

    I bought the gas line at Home Depot and it connects right up to the smoker wthout any adapters.  After I checked the burners without any modification and noticed they were burning really low,  so after a little research I drilled out the orifices to 1/16 inches and now they work perfectly.

    I just finished putting a gasket around the doors to better seal the heat and smoke in.  I think I am overloading the modifications....LOL

    Looks nice Bigsky.    ne mod that I'm thinking about is replacing the smoke stack with one that has a damper.  Was reading another thread for Masterbuilt Mods and there was a stack in there that might just swap right out with the one on top of the 44.

    LOL.....I have the Turkey in the smoker right now just smokin away.  So far my cheap thermometer from Wally World is working perfectly.  Temp is rising around 150F internal meat right now.....now to get it finished and enjoy the Trukey for dinner.....mmmmmm....QVIEW pics are coming....

    Nice MOD....I thought of adding a damper on the stack as well, but I will probably construct one some how.

  7. Finally seasoned my new Smoke Hollow 44-incher yesterday and am doing a pork top sirloin roast in there. Here is the before picture:

    Nice.

    I found myself laughing yesterday after throwing a pork loin in my 44 yesterday, the racks just looked so barren. 


    Dang near had enough open space to park a small Volkswagen in there    :)

    • FIXME: needs styling from "post-user-info"
    • Demosthenes9   it is a LARGE smoker but it will handle the small jobs as well as the big jobs.  I am just glad I don't have to worry about running out of gas anymore.

    Here is a picture of the door mod.....I installed a fireplace rope around the door for better sealing.  Absolutely NO SMOKE came out of the doors during my smoking.  Worth every penny and tim to install it.

    Yeah, it'll definitely handle the smaller jobs.  I'm lucky in that I have a choice of which smoker to use.  Here's my lineup:


    If it's something really small, like a single rack of ribs, I'll often just throw it on my Weber gasser with a smoke pouch and indirect heat.  

    When I got the 44, one of my cousins asked if the 2 other smokers were going to be retired as they were surplus now.    I laughed at that one   :)

    Nice.   I'm kind of undecided on how I am going to seal things up.   Mine has the glass door and smoke escapes everywhere.    I'm thinking about using the BGE gasket stuff mentioned in another thread for the actual door seal, along with a bead of RTV where the glass meets the metal.

    Hey guys,  I'm thinking of getting the same Smoke Hollow unit.  I assume you like yours, any regrets (woulda,shoulda, coulda, etc) I've been using an electric and am thinking about the switch to gas or charcoal.  everyone says the WSM is the way to go but I'm not a fan of top loading (been doing too long already) and I'm not sold on charcoal for the mess and monitoring it requires.

    Anyway curious as to your thoughts, Thanks!
