My First Pulled Pork Butt

  1. Started at about 0800 hrs this morning. I rounded up most of the ingredients to generate a decent version of one of the rubs I found on here.

    I bought a second digital therm (wireless...awesome), so partway through I decided to mount my wired therm inside to figure out how close the stock therm was on the GOSM...turns out it's out by nearly 50 degrees!!!

    After about 2 hours, I sprayed it down with apple juice once and hour.

    So after nearly 12 hours, I hit 165. Here it is coming out and into the foil.

    I am going to finish in the oven, as we are in the midst of a fire ban, and I don't want any late night visits from the local fire dept!

    I know it's way too late, but if you can let it rest for an hour you're good to go. Good looking pork, BTW.

    Nice job on the butt, that earned ya some points! Also, good job not trustin the original thermo, they are more then likely off from the start. Got a remote digi just fer box temps, there sure handy. Keep up the good work![​IMG]
  9. So we stayed up till 0100 hrs this morning waiting for the magic 200 degree mark.

    I decided to let it rest in the cooler until I woke up this morning, so I put a therm into it, and set an alarm.

    Pulled it at about 0600 hrs this morning and it was sitting at 175 degrees.

    WORTH EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have had three sammies for breakfast, and I intend on scarfing a few down for lunch before the masses arrive this afternoon [​IMG]

  16. It's actually the first pulled pork I've ever tasted! And I am so totally making this a staple in our diet now :eek:) And yup, I threw together a slaw last night (around 2300 hrs :eek:) Used one of the recipes I found on here as well. I will track it down, and personally thank whoever contributed...I think it was "Meowy"? Awesome slaw!
