Alaska, evening.... the hole for the exhaust looks a little on the small side... Maybe it's the angle of the picture... Dave
Good eye Dave.... Ther hole for the exhaust is only big enough for me to use as my lift point. Here is a question for you though... Is it necessary for me to put a gasket on the CC door?

Good Eye Dave... The hole that you are referring to is just large enought to use as my lift point. I will be making it large enough for the pipe once I get it situated on the trailer.

Is the FB going on the trailer? or overhanging the end?  I didn't see where your axle is located.

Looking good so far.....  RG

The FB will be hanging over the back end of the trailer. I'm trying to figure out where I get the best balance. There are a couple other items I plan on adding to the trailer to the trailer.

Hopefully someone is still awake... Does the FB baffle free hang from its bolts or is it solid... I have my gap correct but I can reach in and push it up towards the top... I can put washers between it and cinch it down but not sure....

I THINK MOST I HAVE SEEN MAKE SPACERS AND BOLT IT SOLID BUT I THINK IT WOULD WORK THE SAME JUST HANGIN THERE.
Thanks Mr Holmes…. I had the RF plate in place, welder fired up, stick in hand, helmet on and I was like….Did the guys say bolt it, add spacers so I flipped a coin and let the sparks fly…. I keep forgetting that most of you are sound asleep but Im on Alaska time. It will be interesting to hear others opinion in the AM.

Hello from South Texas have been following your build and it sure looks like it's going to turn out wonderful happy new year and I'll be looking forward to seeing more pictures and the finished product puffing out some thin blue smoke !
Oh Boy someone from Texas but I'm not going to make any jokes in regards to the size of a certain state that start with a T or an A…. In all seriousness I have met so many folks on this forum and everyone of them have been exceptionally helpful and nice. I will be looking to see some of your other post to see what you have gotten into over the years. I'm chomping at the bit to get the build puffing some smoke. I just came inside from welding the RF plate in place. On the way home I picked up the hangers for the springs/axle. A couple local guys I work with have been hinting on whether or not I planning to sell my build and odds are I will keep it until I build another one. I thing the next one will include an warming box. I have been to Texas a number of times since home for me is actually New Mexico but since I have been in Alaska since 85 I sometimes get confused in saying that. Have you ever been to Alaska or is in on a bucket list. If you haven't I would recommend it. Happy New Year to you also. Stay in touch…..

Alaska,

That heat deflector plate will tend to warp and want to move with the heat.  It depends upon the thickness of the material you used.  The spaces are to maintain a minimum and uniform air gap.   The air gap is what gives you insulation for heat dispersion.   I put mine in with 3/8 stock as spacers, bolted in with hardened cap screws, automotive exhaust manifold springs (cut down) to take up slack and stop a rattle.

You got allow for some movement since there will be temp difference between deflector and anchor point.  This would be especially true if you used two different types of steel.   I made mine removable so I could remove / modify it.  It is easier to do that now while it is easy to get at.

Take a look at my build thread....Dave O gave a good explanation of what to do.  Thanks again Dave...he has really helped me out!

Keep up the work....you'll get her done......odd hours or not!!

RG

Thanks for the info RadiioGuy.... Dave has been a huge help with my build and I have gain plenty of knowledge from many others... My baffle plate is 1/4 inch like the rest of the FB I have it free hanging on some good size bridge piling bolts. I believe it will work fine and if it starts to rattle I can put the same springs from my Willys Jeep motors....

Howdy, Alaska. Back when I was in Adak, no McDonalds. No fast food joints at all. You pretty much ate at home or got something out of a vending machine at the bowling alley. Going off thread here, but I remember in either '77 or '78, the military flew in a bunch of Burger King stuff and some people to cook it. They set up in a big hangar at the airport. The supplies were limited, but everyone was entitled to one whopper and fries. When my brother, Dad and I left Adak, we landed in Anchorage. Hit the first McDonalds we saw. Dad sat us in a back corner so as not to be embarrassed and brought us a big tray of fast food to slobber on. And coming from the Aleutians, we were white as ghosts. Did you know that the sun RARELY shines there!!

Was in Anchorage back in the 70's as a stopover to refuel before going to Japan. Thats the only time I have been in your neck of the woods. I would love to spend a couple weeks there one day.
We have a boat, I know where the fish are so come on up.

The wind blew the sun away....

OK fellas... I'm getting rerady to put my angle iron rails for my grates. My question is how much of a gap do I need above the CC door bottom? I also wanted to put in a second rack closer to the top but was concerned that there may be so much smoke it would ruin the product is this an issue?
