My calendar tells me that Mothers' Day is nigh upon us coming on the 13th of may this year?

SO!

Whose smokin' for the mamas and what will you be doing?  How many are you cooking for?

Our parents are both deceased, but our new son-in-law has his parents and 2 sets of grandparents.  I'm not certain that I'm up to cooking for 10 - 15 people yet, but 'faint heart ne'er won fair maiden' either.  I figger I could do some pork ribs and a butt and maybe a brisket seein' as how its 2 weeks and bit away.  Most of these folks are Texans and will judge my brisket hardest, I think.  That's why I'm thinking of throwing in some ribs and pulled pork.  All to be done on an MES40.

Is this too ambitious for a newbie who will be doing all these meats for only the second time?

What sides would you consider for this?  Kids are in late 20's.  His parents in there late 40's.  His grandparents are out age (70) or older by a few years - but not many.  Beans, mac and cheese and slaw?  Sliced onions, dill pickles and slice white bread and at least 3 different sauces.

What are YOU gonna do?

Aw why not go big! I'm probably smoking for us, since all the kids, grandkids and parents live in other parts of the country (Nebraska, Ohio, WVA and Pennsylvania). Or if I'm lucky, he'll grill some nice ribeyes.

As for sides, check out  the Sides here on the forum. You could try Twice Baked Potatoes, or just baked, and I posted a recipe for Three Bean Casserole or Dutch's Wicked Baked Beans. Maybe a nice pasta salad.

Good luck and let us know what you do!

Looks like I'll do the cooking for my brood.  Both our mothers have passed, but we have 2 daughters and 1 son and they all have kids.  I'm sure my sister and her kids will be here if her son doesn't take her out to a restaurant.  Now that you got me thinking, I'm sure I'll smoke and grill ribs and maybe a brisket.  I haven't done a butt yet, but I don't know if I'll try it for that day.  Sides will be cole slaw, potatoe salad and maybe some grilled veggies and of course some ABTs (but I may try them before mother's day). I might even try to grill or smoke some fruit.  Has anybody tried that?
