Hi all,

After some useful advice I embarked on my build this weekend.  I decided on a brick build because I had a ton of bricks leftover from some work in the garden, plus I wanted to try my hand at brick laying.

Its tiny compared to most of the beautiful big brick smokers here, and as you can see my brick laying skills leave something to be desired but it was great fun to make a start and very satisfying.  I'm based in central London, UK so don't have too much space to build a bigger smoker!

Will post more photos as the build progresses.

Bottom course laid on a sturdy path at the back of the garden.

Three courses up and the bottom filled with concrete to take a hearth of 75mm firebrick.

Looking good!!   Keep us posted on the progress

Managed to get the lower door lintel in and the rack supports which are just mild steel plates embedded in mortar joints.  The lower ones will support plate steel removable baffles, the upper will support the food racks.

Looks really good.   Be sure you have enough support for your racks.   Two to three butts can weigh up to 24-30lbs.

Wes, good point, i might double up those supports.  I didn't want any centrally in case i wanted to hang joints from the lid - i was planning on casting some hooks into the concrete top for this purpose.

Just a thought.   The brick work needs to cure for at least 30-45 days before you bring it up to smoker temp.   If the masonry isn't cured, it will crack.

Awesome build!    You won't be disappointed with the outcome.
