Well I'm in the process of phasing out my uds and am looking at building a more custom brick smoker with attached grill etc. Anyone know of a good place to start my research. I notice not a lot of posts on the subject. Any help would be fantastic.

Quikstryke, afternoon....  I built a block smoker about 30 yrs ago.... 4x4x10'.....  I found a few drawbacks to it....  Depending where you live, combustion produces water and the cold walls will drip with moisture until it gets heated up....  The thermal mass of the bricks will take forever to heat up....  They are pretty and they do not burn down, I know for a fact they don't burn down....  so there are some plusses I guess....

That is my experience....  Dave

Well one of my ideas was to line the box and grill with steel and insulation between the steel and brick but not sure this is even a good idea

Quickstryke, Here is a brick unit Thailandphil built.....   He doesn't have any of the problems I mentioned previously....

I guess I want to move to Thailand and be Phils neighbor....  that would be way cool....  I guess brick smokers/pizzaovens/BBQ grills combinations are very possible... Dave
