Billbo, I wasn't sure how that would turn out when I started but since the fire box is rounded the 12" pieces are kind of self aligning. You can use the grates to level the pieces of angle and once you have them where you want them they are there to stay, if you moved your smoker around I'm sure they would need to be re-positioned but that's not a problem. This little mod makes a HUGE difference!
