So this weekend I smoked an 8# butt and a 12# brisket using Lumberjack pellets and my oh my it came out amazing. I feel like I have been cheated for the last 3 years by using Traeger pellets. The smoke flavor I got from the Lumberjack pellets compared to the Traeger pellets was exponential. The only plus the Traeger pellets have is that they are relatively easy to find and are carried by Costco during the summer. I am going to have to stockpile some bags of these Lumberjack pellets!!!

I am going to have to check them out. Thanks for the tip.

Get a bag of Cookinpellets.com 100% hickory and your mind will be blown again! Amazon has them with shipping included for a decent price but you may never want to use any other pellet! It's the only pellet that I can say I can taste a difference when using. I never used Traeger, but with their "flavor oils" and such I likely never would..

Phrett,
I have a bag of the cookingpellets.com Perfect mix. I'm going to try them this weekend on some pork ribs and see what those bad boys are all about.

Have you tried the pellets from Amazen Products.

If they say hickory, they are 100% hickory etc.

Todd's pellets are good, but the cheapest ones listed on his site are 90c/lb. That's fine for running in an AMPTS or tube, but if you're running in a pellet grill it's too expensive. I get LumberJack for less than half that price. Does anyone know if Todd sells bulk for less $$ ?

A bulk buy of Lumberjack is your best bet if you can get some friends in on a purchase or if you have the storage space.  Pricing is $495 for a ton for 40 lb bags of their normal pellets (some specialty blends and 20 lb bags will run more).  I get the MHC blend, OHC blend and 100% hickory.  Shipping is extra and can add up to a bit if you are not close by.  I live close by and my total on my last purchase was $550.  That comes out to $11 a 40 lb bag or 27.5 cents per lb.

Another good deal though admittedly not as good a Lumberjack by the ton is at www.cookinpellets.com 600# for $370-396 including shipping anywhere in continental US.

I'm a newbie, only a handful of cooks on my 1st pellet grill but after going through a 40# of LG Tennessee whiskey barrel very quickly, I ordered 4 other types from Amazon. The cookinpellets have the nicest aroma, the best smoke flavor and help temps with the lowest lbs per hour of smoking out of all that I tried.

I recently switched to Lumberjack 100% hickory pellets after using several other brands. The smoke flavor is incredible compared to the others.
I went in on a bulk buy with a couple friends. Price delivered to Albany NY was $653.
Comes out to .33c a lb.

Newbie question here. Do pellets expire? If I buy in bulk and keep them dry will they still give out great smoke and flavor even if I use it let's say 2 years from now? I don't want to invest in a large buy only to have them go bad.

Keep them dry and they'll be fine. By the way, you may not have to purchase a large amount for yourself. LumberJack will help put together a group buy with other folks in your area.

I'm liking the cookinpellets alot and based on the burn rate I'm feeling like they're a pretty good value. I was thinking I'd try out the Lumberjacks, test with a 20lb bag. I looked at Amazon and a few other online sellers and the best prices I saw were around $25 for 20lbs and $48 for 40lbs. It looks like if you don't buy a ton, they're one of the most expensive brands out there. Kinda odd.

Just in case it's not clear -  YOU don't have to buy a ton to get a great price if you do a group buy. I bought 400lbs last year and paid $0.37/lb including shipping. Another person in the group only bought 5 bags and got the same price.
