Hey people. Yup, another new guy here. My name is Ben and I'm in southwest Michigan. A couple days ago I bought a Smoke Hollow #5 gasser. I put it together yesterday and did the initial burn. Today, I attempted to season it. I tossed in a handful of Hickory chips, went in the house, and went back outside about ten minutes later, only to be nearly suffocated by huge amounts of nasty Hickory smoke billowing out of the unit. Obviously, I have some learning to do.

I turned the smoker down to low and then things became more tolerable. I was surprised how quickly the chips burned up. My goals for the weekend are to smoke something (uh, meat of some sort). Before that, though, I am planning on buying some wood chunks and a better thermometer. I'll try to attach a couple of photos.

Now, off to change into some clothes that don't stink like bad smoke. Take care and have a great weekend! I was so excited to get the thing put together that I really didn't make it a priority to get the label off the front.

Welcome to the SMF from a cold MO! As for learning, that's half the fun! As long as all you burned was wood, your're doing fine!

Always great to have more SW Michigan folks around! You'll get that gasser figured out! Just be patient, use cheap meats until ya do.
