I am looking to buy a smoker and right now it is between the MES with the Amazen and a used Traeger lil tex. Both will cost me about the same. I am currently leaning towards the MES as it is new and comes with a warranty. I stopped by Lowes and they have two models the normal 30 that I have seen everywhere for $179 and a "newer" (at least that is what I was told) model that has a built in IT probe to place inside your meat for $199. Has anyone tried the model with the IT probe? Trying to figure out if it is accurate or if I should just by the regular model and my own IT probe.

Thanks

Kevin

My MES 40 has the "built in" thermometer and I use it. Would it be worth $20? Not to me, but I've got a box of thermometers, 10 years experience, and my Thermapen! I like the convenience but that would not be a deal breaker or deciding factor. When it finally goes I'm not going to sweat getting it fixed or replaced.

I have the MES 30 with the internal temp probe and love it. I can't say just how acurate it is because I've never compared it with anything else. So far, all of my smokes have all come out good so it can't be off too far off.
