Took readings in my analog bullet. $29.00
Smoker , using a digital probe on the grate next to my pork butt.
The dome thermometer on one side of the smoker and digital on the other .
Both readings were the same during 8 hours . This smoker is "set and forget"!
The wood chunks burn well.. Same rate as if they were in my ECB.
This new ( ECM ) works great!
If you load a couple chunks in , You can foil one chunk and it starts up about when the in wrapped ones go out.
I used charcoal in the chip pan that I broke up . The charcoal all burned up nice. I tried charcoal wrapped with wood chunks.. The charcoal did not light before the chunks went out in the same foil. So I tossed the chunks in no wrap.. they went as planned.
Using some coals I figure can help the ECM go through real cold weather.. Will experiment more as temps fall here..
Another reason to use some charcoal is for a little smoke ring . I'm not sure how much charcoal you need for smoke rings with the chunks.. I got patches of smoke ring only adding 5 briquetes . In 6 hours of smoke.
I sure like using chunks though.. No soaking or piles of chips and ash..
Good smoker for the money. Removed water pan and set the temp dial half way up for the constant 230-235 the whole day.. Temps outside 35-40 light winds.
Chunks about 3 inches x3 inches or medium size lasted 1 to 1.5 hours. Wrapped in foil
just over 2 hours..
