I purchased an MES 40 June 1st from Sams Club and had issues with getting smoke.  Masterbuilt sent new smoke kit (which is nice), but as I continued testing I found I was getting internal box temperatures that were as much as 28 degrees below what controller reads.  Called MB and they said suggested I return it and exchange for new one, which I did.  But this one has exact same issue (ONLY WORSE).  I placed several calibrated probes/thermos in unit and with controller set to 275, the highest temp on any probe ever was 234 degrees (with 2 - 3lb chucks on second shelf).  I am not using an extension cord, i am plugged into a garage outlet, nothing else plug in or running.  If the temp was off the other direction I could learn to adjust for it, but not being able to reach 240 is an issue!

I called MB again yesterday and after sending in a copy of my receipt to them , I received an email today telling me to "cut off the power cord and remove the silver data plate from the back of your smoker and mail them to Masterbuilt Customer Service" and they will send me a replacement body kit.  Seems like a drastic step, but CS Rep insist that it is not the controller, but the electronic wiring in the box.  Before I go out and hack of the power cord and sit here with no smoker while I wait for a replacement, do anyone have any better suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

This is the first time I have heard of this fix from Masterbuilt. I don't have any suggestions for you, but will be following this to see how it turns out. It sure sounds like the controller to me, but I'm sure they know their units better than I do.

I bought the exact same unit May 1st and haven't had any problems.  I'm 10-15 degrees on the warm side compared to a candy therometer which I think is very good.  Sorry I don't have any advice for you
