Should I soak my wood chips or not? I have always left them dry but it seems like they dont last very long

what Al said.....I used to be a soaker, now dry chunks (not chips) if I'm not using the AMNS. I think, regardless of the unit used, chips/chunks need some monitoring and more added if needed.

I tried it both ways after I got my MES a couple of years ago. I couldn't tell much differnce. One thing I did start doing was useing some Royal Oak lump in the chip pan along with wood chips. Seemed to give a better smoke ring.

With wood chips they definitely will last longer wet (Damp)

I mix them with a little water in a bucket just so they are damp to the touch. You mite even use a spray bottle and mist a bottom layer put some more chips in and then mist again. then i mix.

You only want damp.

I tried it when I got my first MES.

Then I tried it without.

Didn't see any difference.

Then I got an A-MAZE-N-SMOKER, and smoked "Happily Ever After".

Wet chips help to create creosote.

Try it both ways like Al suggested.
