Hey Guys, its been a while since i have been on here.....something went wrong with my old Swampmouse 2 login....so one day i will figure out what happened there....

But anyway, either way its been a few months since i have been on.

I have a MES 30 Gen 1, which (knock on wood) has never given me one second of trouble in several years of using it a decent amount.

I am a Scoutmaster these days and am planning on a BBQ fundraiser for our troop at the end of April so I was thinking about going to Sams tomorrow and picking up a MES 40 Gen 2.5.

Here are my questions:

1. Does anyone know if they ever fixed the Android BT app problem they were having earlier this year?

2. Are all the Sam's Club models stainless inside these days???....the picture on line looks like stainless, but it doesn't really say.

The bluetooth isn't all that important to me, but i would like it to work at least a little bit. The old remotes work flawlessly but i use the controls on the smoker half the time anyway. I really want the 40" version for the added space...not that I'm putting the MES 30 out to pasture any time soon.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

SM

Welcome back SM,
All I've seen is interior stainless steel. I just got my MES 40 Gen 2.5 in Nov and I've been doing a lot of smokes for 70 plus people with no problem. I'd recomend going for it!

No problem. I should add that when I've cooked for over 50 it was basically just pulled pork! Easiest and cheapest wat to feed a lot of people!

I have the 40" BT and love it. My Droid Turbo works just fine with it though the distance the BT will reach into the house is limited - about 25' for me.....

Thanks Guys!

I pulled the trigger today and went and got the 40" at Sam's Club. $329, which I didn't think was too bad for this time of year. I am sure it will be on sale around the holidays, but i was ready now.

I got it out there burning all the crap off the inside. Now all it needs is a nice black coating inside!

I cant remember my 30" looking that shiny!

As I get some mileage on this smoker, I will post back periodically to let folks know how it is performing for me. It will be interesting to see how this one stacks up against against the Gen 1 30".

Congrats on the new smoker! That's the same price I paid too and I bought after thanksgiving. I never owned a MES before this one so I can't compare to 30, but I've enjoyed it and have fed a lot of people in the short time I have had it! If you feel like trying something new this is a picture of a modification a guy here "Mr T" helped me set up. It's simple 3" single wall chimney pipe run from smoke generator to MES chip loader. It cleans out a lot of the creosote.

Anyway, have fun! Looking forward to seeing your cooks and how the Scouts enjoy it!

I like that mod! I actually was thinking about doing the mailbox mod myself since i already have an Amaze N Pellet burner. I did a smoke yesterday with 4 butts and the new design of the chip tray is ridiculously small. I will say, however, that it seems to actually burn the chips better than the 30", so maybe thats a trade off?

As fara s the Bluetooth...I am 50/50. It worked when i was smoking it in on Saturday night, but would not work when smoking yesterday. No matter to me as i like the buttons anyway. not a biggie, but i could not get it to connect yesterday for those that may care about that sort of thing. Like Bear,  its no biggie to me......although i did really like my remote off my MES 30!

I've never tried the BT on mine. The wife got me an I Grill and I had a Maverick so it seemed pointless. The blinky lights on the box are a few degrees off from my other blinky lights. I did a boil test on the more mobile probes to gauge accuracy and it's pretty easy to monitor from there.

If you are doing a mail box mod be sure to look through following links:

PM me if you have any other questions!

Bauchjw - I got an iGrill too, but the bluetooth app works much like the remote on the older MES30. It lets you turn it off and on and adjust temps, etc. in theory from the comfort of your chair as long as its close enough......in theory.

I was surprised however that the MES 40 thermometer was spot on what my iGrill probes were reading! That was a nice surprise!

Im a little ashamed to say I use going and checking on temps/smoker to get a breath from a two year old and pregnant wife! I love them, but sometimes a guy needs a few moments of peace and work does not count! I used the "less time with the smoker" excuse to get the MES, but now you know the ugly truth of why I never spent too much time on BT. However, I had same experience with my MES thermometer. It was only a degree off from Maverick and iGrill.
