I'm looking to buy a mes 40....sams club has the 40 inch with window model 20070215 cabelas has their branded 40" solid door... which one would you all recommend and why?

Are you dead set on going with the MES or would you consider another unit? I've owned an MES before and a LOT of guys use them because they have a ton of retail coverage, but there are better units for similar money (in my opinion) if you would consider.

No I'm not dead set on it.... it's what I've always seen and people recommend and I have a mes 30 so I'm used to them....which ones are you talking about

Smokin-it smokers. Electric. Stainless. Pretty darn affordable, MUCH better built than the MES....and I've owned both. If you want an electric, that's where I would be looking.

The ones I'm looking at are 329 and 349.... the smokin it ones I see are 500 to 700

Just went thru this - have the SmokinIt. What bothered me is all the mods folks apply to the MES to get it to work right.

No mods at all on either my MES 30 or my MES 40 and they both work great.

I do have a pipe extension for cold smoking with the Cold Smoke attachment but that's about cleanliness of the smoke itself and would apply to any cold smoking in any unit.

I'm actually in virginia and went to sams here they have a all stainless unit called smoke hollow smoke tronix.... it's 40 inch Bluetooth has a huge chip tray has 2 burners one for heat one for smoke so it has built in cold smoking capability. It has a lot of extra features the masterbuilt doesn't and it's 30 bucks cheaper thinking of picking it up

I've been loving my MES 30 but that Smokin-it #2D does look quality built and is $79 off until tomorrow.  Any notable negatives with the Smokin-it smokers?  Looks like you would have to open it to add wood chips (I like the MES side chip loader putting a little bit in at a time and adding more after a while).  The tag on the Smokin-it says to never use more than 8oz if wood chips per smoke.  Do you just load it up with a cup before the smoke starts and it slowly burns through it?

Sounds interesting but if the smoke burner is inside the cabinet it is still going to create heat inside the chamber. Unless it is totally different than I'm envisioning I'm not seeing how that would be very effective at cold smoking.

It will create some yes.... and I'm sure it can't do a true cold smoke... but one thing I was thinking about is it'd be nicer for jerky the masterbuilt runs the main smoker burner and you get cooked jerky instead of smoked jerky..
Apparently this smoker is brand new and only available in select markets so there's no reviews or anything yet

Does sound like it would make a nice cabinet for smoking jerky and sausage.

I just saw your review on the Smokin-it #2D and doesn't seem like something I'd want (not sure about others) after reading that. The "burp" issue is interesting (learn something about smoking new everyday now) - is this common for all Smokin-it models or do others have better air flow?  Thanks!
