In a couple weeks on Memorial Day, my family is having me smoke some ribeyes and I just have a couple questions.

1) I've smoked steak twice; the first time, my dad and I were pulling it apart with our fingers. It was no doubt the best steak I'd ever eaten. But, the second time? Completely different story. It was like chewing some hickory flavored leather. Think I just smoked it too long or that it was a cheap piece of meat?

2) Is ribeye a good cut for smoking? I'm about 90% sure that a chuck steak is what I've smoked previously but I want to go for a better cut this time around.

3) Injecting. I injected a pork butt for the first time last week w/some apple juice and it turned out to be the best/juiciest pork I've smoked. So for the steak, I plan on injecting it with some melted butter and seasonings. I'm just wondering if anyone's tried that before and how it turned out. Thanks.

I agree with the above!

Reverse sear is the way to go, and no need to inject.

A ribeye has plenty of marbleing to keep it moist.
