Hello all my smoking meat mates.  I Just ordered a set of meatrakes, (well two sets cause they're on sale), for pulling my pork and was wondering if anyone out there has some and can testify they work was good as shown on the website? Can't wait.

I used to use bear claws, but for me they tend to shred the meat a little too much. I prefer to just use my hands & I end up with bigger chunks, which is what we like around here. Also it lets you pull out any fat you don't want for the finished PP.

I agree with AL. I tried the bear claws my friend had but I found it much easier to just throw on a cheap pair of BBQ gloves and do it by hand.

I use what they call "Extra hands salad servers"  to shred pork with.  The spacing allows for larger shreds and all you have to do is plunge them into the pork and give them a twist. There are several styles out there but the bigger the tooth spacing, the better. Here is a link to give you an idea of what they look like.

I use the oh Shi.... method an it goes like this. You start pulling with my bare hands till it to hot and then I say oh Shi.. and then wait a minute and go at it again till it gets to hot again. Well that way I can get all the fat out of it as I go. but then you know when your dumb you have to be tough.

Just so you won't be alone, I use the Meat Rakes.  They're great for shredding your latest creation.  I find that their utility is enhanced by the way you grip.  I have arthritis in the hands and the Bear Claws just didn't work right, besides which, my daughter stole them and uses them to frighten the neighbors kids.

Having teeth of SS which allows finer shredding is definitely a benefit.

BTW, the Oh Shi method, another application is when I drop a finely cooked piece of meat on the floor.  The Oh Shi technique really adds emphasis to the "^*&&####* remarks.[IMG]

Well I use the gloves.  I have a pair of rubber electrician gloves so I dont have to say oh shi.!!!

my pork is usually too hot to pull by bare hands. I'll stick with the Bear Claws. Shreaded pork is were it is at for a pulled pork sammie.

What rating?  10KV?  Sure, bring up something like that after I've retired from Heavy Industrial Electrical work.....  At least you don't have to get them certified every 6 months.

    WELCOME!

I must admit, I just use my hands too!  The modified Oh Shi method, or you can just tough it out.

However, our friend does have arthritis, and she uses meat rakes, and loves them. Dishwasher safe, and easy to use is her comment. For her, it fills the bill and makes it easier.  You can use two forks also, but she said that was just about as bad as using nothing.   Since I do NOT have arthritis, I just use my hands.

Good luck to all either way.[IMG]

  13. I have insulated rubber cooking gloves that I use to shred my shoulder with and they work good.
