I just saw this page come across my Facebook feed. I am in no way affiliated with these guys, but I thought people here would be interested in hearing about it. And I'm posting here instead of the gadgets forum as GD gets more traffic.

It's a completely wireless temperature probe system.

This thing looks really cool. Completely wireless--yes the actual probes are wireless, and each probe has two temp sensors, an internal and an external ambient sensor. Bluetooth connection to your phone or tablet, a multi bay charger (up to four probes at a time). And a cool looking wood block stand.

What is Indiegogo funding?

That thing looks pretty cool. I wonder how accurate it is.

It's also pretty pricey if you get everything that comes with it.

Nice toy!!

Hope somebody buys one so we can see how well it works.

Indiegogo is a crowd funding service. Basically people buy into the development of a product before it is available. In return you get the product and usually a discount or some other perk that those who wait until it is commercially available would not get.

It does seem expensive, but the 4x probe block and wireless link is just a little more than twice the cost of two Maverick 733s, and you get 4 internal temp probes and 4 external temp probes. So it may be twice as expensive, but you get twice as many probes also. This would be great for people that cook several different kinds of meats, or have multiple cooking level.

Although, I'm not sure what the difference is between the two higher buy in levels. Wish they had a page that showed the package contents for each level.

On the right hand side of the Indiegogo page, there are prices with buttons that say "Get This Perk". Prices breakdown is $59, $169, and $218.

I'm a Kickstarter backer as well.  They are still in the beta stages with software and hardware.  Hopefully will see soon.

I sent a link on this to my Son last week, because I think it's Great.

He loved it, and I think he signed up, but he wondered about the whole thing being inside a metal box (Smoker). He said it's still worth it to try it out.

Imagine not having to screw around with wires when foiling, flipping, changing position, removing, etc, etc.

Getting a little concerned about this. I really had high hopes for the product. A few months ago it was on Kickstarter and raised over $1.2 Million in pledges. Now the same idea is in another funding site ?? I know it cost money to develope a product and bring it to market, but really ? I'm not getting the warm and cozies with this.

And it appears that they've raised another $500,000 to bring the product to market with the Indiegogo offering. Given the updates I've received and pictures of the samples, I don't have the same trepidations that you do. It seems that they are shooting for a June or July shipping date. I hope they achieve that. There is still the .gov certifications to get through (who knows how long that will take).

I really hope they do get it to market and hope I can afford it when they do. I haven't thought about gov approval, that can eat up alot of time and $$$.

Hey. It's the risk we take when making this kind of investment.

At least it's not big $$ like some. I have buddy who bought into the Koolest Kooler. 2 yrs and counting and just got word that indicates it may not happen.

From just general information I've gathered, the 4 probe block with Wi-Fi will be around $200 suggested manufacturer retail. Once it actually gets to market, I would guess that about 6-8 months later you should be able to get a 4 probe unit with Wi-Fi in the $160-170 range. I bought the "full boat" package and with shipping it was around $180.

As muralboy pointed out, it's a risk but a manageable one in my opinion. If it does make it to market I don't expect to see it shipped until late fourth quarter (maybe in time for Christmas??).
