I know some folks here use the ET-7; they stick one of the probes through a potato and use that one for smoker temp.

I have the ET-73, which has one probe for the meat and another that attaches to the grill for smoker temp. It works great, and I'm sure the same is true of the ET-7.

I have the 73. Best investment ever. I can watch the temps from my easy chair. I keep the chamber probe near my firebox so I can watch for drops.

I have a couple of ET-7's and yeah, that's a nice price. I got mine for that price a year back and they've been great. The range isn't fantastic and they don't have a low temp. alarm but once you get used to it, I think you'll really like them.

Ron.. I am interested in this one also.
Don't mean to hijack your thread, but anyone that has one of these can one of the probes be used to monitor the smoker temp? Or does the high end temp just go to "well done" or I believe 182* doesnt help if smoker is 225*

Found my own answer.. goes to 410*

You can use the 7 to monitor the meat temp with one probe and the rack temp with the other probe. Thing is... the 7 is made to go to a set temp and alarm... flash and beep. The 73 has one probe made to monitor the rack temp and set off an alarm if it gets to a low set point and to a high set point which is really helpful with gas, stick or charcoal. That is the main difference in the two units.

I got the ET 7 a couple of weeks ago. Checked the calibration, right on the money. Using it for the first time tonight. Seems to work okay. One thing I found out quick, is that if you walk out of range, it just keeps displaying the last know temperature. I suggest you walk around your house with the reciever and learn where the dead spots are.

I have had my ET-7 for over two years. If it was broken, stolen, or whatever I would soon have another one on order.

Just got mine. After 20 mins reading and fiddling with buttons I kinda figured it out.

You can set it to change probe temps automatically. Here is a supposed pork reading except I am doing an ice test.

And a supposed beef reading.

Seems to do everything I need it to. I walked about 50 feet from the back patio to the front yard with the house in between and worked great. I did an ice test as I was taught in the food saftey class as it is more accurate then the boiling water test because of the altitude variariations. The 2 probes were within 2 degrees. I then checked the air temp and they were perfect.

I did notice it timed out twice though but came back soon. Not a biggie though.

Good investement at 50% off.
