I was lucky to win my second A-maze-n Products giveaway contest from their newsletter!  Thanks Todd!  This instant read therm was calibrated and signed off in handwriting by a Maverick tech.,  giving the parameters.  It's about a five second read from ice water to boiling and faster with temps in between.  It reads within one degree of my Thermowand  (now Javelin) from Lavatools  The Thermowand is always faster but lacks the backlit display of the Maverick for night viewing and deep readings for roasts.  This Maverick is the PT-100 and maybe the official therm of Texas because it's huge, 7.5" long closed with a 4.5" probe.  You won't lose it or need glasses to read the display even if your standing on the surface of the Sun (because it's a reverse LCD display showing white numbers on a black background.)  Here are a couple pics:

Ice water

Boiling water was just as accurate at my elevation.  The thermowand/Javelin for a 3-4 second reading @ $24.99 including shipping, with a magnetic back, with a 4.5 star out of 5 with 5,000+ reviews since it's been around for two years, with a lifetime warranty can't be beat.  If the Thermapen had a warranty longer than 2 years (that would justify the price), I would purchased it.  Especially the MK4 with the self righting screen for an upright reading at any position you hold the therm.

Winner winner chicken dinner! Nice score! I didn't realize Maverick made a version of the Thermapen. I like the display. I love my MK4 though and my regular Thermapen is my back up.

Has Maverick improved their quality. I used their remotes for awhile but due to probe failures and other issues I stopped using them a number of years ago.

It may have been improved since the directions call for three AAA batteries.but only uses two now. The current reviews are more favorable on Amazon compared to those a few years back. Time will tell. Todd sells this for $50.
