Hey all. My name is Matt Curtis and I live in the town of Apple Valley in the High Desert of California. I've been chasing down BBQ since I was a kid (my dad grew up in Texas, so Texas BBQ was always part of our visits to the grandparents). A few years back I got into the sport myself, and have been loving it. More than anything, I enjoy helping other people get into it. I started a website (fattybombatty.com) for the pre-smoker to answer the most basic questions, and have had a blast with it. I've also been doing some catering for church events (125-325 people), so larger events are what capture most of my research. I love learning about all the tricks you more seasoned vets are so gracious to share.

I started out with an electric Brinkmann which broke almost instantly, then had the good fortune of remodeling our house when considering a replacement. Ended up with a Cookshack SM008, and I just keep buying. Bought and sold a Masterbuilt Electric Smokehouse, and now have 2 Masterbuilt Extra Wide propane smokers that I use for the larger events I do. I'd be shocked if I don't end up with a charcoal smoker in the not too distant future. Call me a typical Californian, but I have no allegiance to any style of smoker. They've all produced killer BBQ, and thats all that matters in my book.

I've learned so much from this forum over the years, but have finally taken the plunge to get more active.

Welcome Aboard, Matt. It does't matter if its Cali or Texas as long as it's killer BBQ. Or any where else for that matter. "UP IN SMOKE" from Texas
