As I said in role call...I just got this freebie and haven't even fired it up yet... I'm looking at some possible mods for the Masterbuilt 7 in 1.
Just wondering if other owners of this unit can provide some comments on ideas I have for modding my unit.
1) The BBQ has a big hole almost 1 foot in diameter in the bottom for the propane. If I'm going to charcoal smoke, is it OK to cover the hole to reduce the amount of air going into the unit....I covered it for now with an old frying pan. or....
1a) Alternatively, I can take the charcoal pan out of the unit and create a support for it so that it sits outside and under the unit and fires thru the hole....noticed that ECB owners add those "stilts" to their pan - could do the same for this pan and install it outside the unit. Makes it easy to add charcoal.
2) There are some openings on the side of the unit where the leg supports are...was going to add some sliding baffles of sorts so I can partially or completely close the air holes if I wanted to.
3) adding a grate to the charcoal pan so that ashes can fall thru to the bottom of the pan - similar to WSM's.
4) I checked the temperature gauge for accuracy and noticed that it's low by around 20 degrees...wondering if this was intentional as the gauge is located in at the top of the unit where it's hottest. If it's low by 20 degrees perhaps it's accurate at the level where the food is. Any comments on this?
Are there other mods out there that some of you may have done? Any help/comments much appreciated.
