Got this for xmas and have already had an amazing time using it. My only problem is that they say it's a charcoal griller AND a propane Griller.

In my opinion, without the charcoal, it's just an over, or broiler i guess. How can I use the propane to get DIRECT heat so I can GRILL some steaks, not bake them. Or maybe i'm grilling inept... Help?
  2. [IMG]   Good evening and welcome to the forum, from another beautiful day here in East Texas. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.

Maybe a gas smoker will jump in and answer your question. I'm an RF guy

  3. Spencer, congrats on the new smoker!  I got the same one for Christmas and am still learning to use it.

I hadn't planned on using it as a gas grill, as my regular gas grill is a better design for even heat.  But I would imagine just remove the middle and top sections of the smoker, and leave out the water pan as well.  The lower rack on it's own seems to be at a pretty good distance from the burner.  But the question in my mind is whether or not to leave on the flame disc bowl?  Without it you'll have nothing between flame and grill, but you'd have juices, etc dropping directly on the burner.  I wouldn't want to potentially clog that up.  I'd think leaving the flame disc bowl on would be the way to go.  It will protect your burner.  And that smoker will throw a big flame to really generate some heat.
