So I started out last night prepping a brisket with a mustard and rub. This morning, I pulled it out of the fridge to let it rest before throwing it in the smoker. While that was resting I thought I would fire up the smoker.

I pulled out the MES 30, set the temp to 240 and threw some Mesquite in the chip tray to get it going. I noticed that it went up to temp VERY quickly, but no smoke. [IMG]

I realized as I was sweating like crazy that it was hot as hell out today and the humidity was very high. So I thought to myself, maybe the sun is heating up the MES too much and that's why I am getting heat without smoke.

So I dig in my garage for an old patio umbrella that I had. I tried to set it up over the smoker to give it some shade, but of course it was broken and before you know it I have wasted an hour trying to fix it all while sweating like crazy. Being the rock of self control that I am, I picked it up and threw it across the yard before stomping on it and swearing at it.

I decided that I needed to have some device to block the sun from beating on the smoker thus appearantly raising the inside temp.  So I got in my truck and went to Big Lots looking for an inexpensive patio umbrella to set up over the smoker. I found a great deal on one that was a clearance/display model. Only $15 after talking the manager down from $39! [IMG]

So I brought it home and set it up, problem solved! Temp is true and I now have nice smoke.

Brisket went in and I prepared a meatloaf too that will be for tomorrow's dinner. Both are in the smoker and I plan on adding some QView when it's done.

It's getting close so I added the veggies, zuccini and summer squash with crushed garlic, salt and pepper tossed in EVOO. Yumm.

Now thats how things work you have something and then it broke and then you stomp it chomp it and throw it and then go gert another one. Then you can start all over but in your case it all worked out well and the meat looks good.

As promised, here is the rest of the QView:

Tomorrow's meatloaf (ok, I admit slicing a piece off for a sample).

    And today's yummies:

Taking the brisket out of the foil.

And my plate, served with steamed brown rice.

That looks great, how did the smoked veggies taste

I have to say that the mesquite gave everything a great flavor. I learned that veggies are good when they are smoked too! The brisket came out perfect, nice and moist and tender with a lot of smokie goodness.

This was my first time with a meatloaf. As a rule, I don't like meatloaf; my mother-in-law's recipe is about the only one I do like. So I borrowed her recipe and threw it in the smoker. All I can say is... OMG that was tasty!

It was a hectic time this morning getting everything started. I got a late start to my smoking, but it all paid off in the end.  Man wins!
