It was suggested I give a peep here in the rollcall forum after saying hello in the Electric Smokers.

Based in Oakland, CA, far away from most good BBQ.

Look forward to keeping up with all of you.

Considered seriously going with a wood offset, but in the end given location, and otherwise, went with the lazyman choice and got an electric smoker. The MES really does sound like its going to just make smoking very easy. While I do like tending a fire, I suspect I'll end up using the MES more often than I would a wood or charcoal smoker, due to the additional convenience.

Nice to join the community.

Already signed up, and thanks to you and all the others for making me feel welcome.

Nice warm place for a cool winter day. (But not too warm. Have to always remember in a BBQ forum, low and slow ;) )

Thanks for joining us at the SMF, best smoke site on Earth. Congrats on the MES, we have many satisfied members who swear by the MES. Good luck on your future smokes, and post some Q Views as they are a show and tell kind of thing. Best of luck with the New Year my friend.

*grin* You caught me out. I used to go by John, Johnny with few and other nicknames, but you know? So many Johns signing up for a pool table at the local brewpub, seemed easier to just go with Jonathan so people knew who the heck it meant, and now I've gotten used to it.

Question for you all regarding the 5 day course.

I signed up with my email, and it didn't show up. Tried again a couple days later. No dice. Tried via different links in case that one was done. Alas no. Finally sent a note to Jeff asking. I haven't heard back from him yet. That was a day or two ago. Since its the holidays (or just after) I'm in no rush, but figured I'd ask you all.

Is there a problem with the sign-up script for the email course at the moment? Anyone else manage to sign up in the last week or so?

Jonathan

EDIT: And of course I go and check my spam folder. While the ecourse didn't show up there, Jeff's reply to me did. Darn Yahoo for not understanding the importance of smoked meats ;) Thanks for the prompt reply Jeff.

Welcome aboard Jonathon, you're gonna love the MES, but me thinks you'll also feel the need for a larger charcoal one soon enough

Quite possibly. I may be moving in a # of months. If so I'll reconsider charcoal or wood then. In addition to the MES I considered a Primo and a couple horizontal offset. It really came down to what would get me smoking the most often (cause that's the point after all). The ease of the electric will hopefully allow me to get more smokes in a month and while I'd love to play a bit more with a real fire, I know I don't have the time.

Right now I'm having fun with the suspense of it all and keeping myself entertained reading and shopping and prepping slowly but surely.

The smoker should be here in 7-12 more days. Yesterday I picked up a rib rack and a briner. Today I ordered an assortment of woods. Tomorrow I'll go down to the welding supply place and pick up some gloves (long welding gloves make for good bbq gloves I've found).

Sort of getting a little every day or two until the smoker arrives to build the anticipation. Already have a big smile on my face. Can't wait to actually get the oils cooked off some meat tossed in.
