Mad As Can Be

I ordered a GOSM smoker from Bass Pro Shop about a month ago.
The box came with no damage. I bought it for a birthday present and this weekend we opened the box and began to put it together.

First, I noticed that bottom, rear near the edge had a dent in it with the paint chipping.

Secondly, I find that that bottom hinge for the door is completely broken off and is missing. This is the little thing the pin goes into from the actual door.

Needless to say, I am very mad.

I bought the unit more than 30 days ago and I put the box in the garage away from where the kids would get to it. I have yet to call Landmann to see what can be done.

Also, the box is completely destroyed due to two small children who wanted to use it as a fort.

I am going to see if Landmann can send me a new hinge then I will have to find someone to weld it on a little better than Landmann did.

For this exact reason I hate ordering crap from businesses that are outside of my state. It's probably all my fault for not opening the box the minute I got it to make sure it all looked good. But I was excited to get it now I wish I never bought it.

I'll keep you posted as to how Landmann helped me out. If they do at all.

From what I know about Landmann they will help you in any way possible to ensure you're happy. Either way, good luck to you!

Good luck with your repair help (not intended as a sarcastic remark). As you noticed, it's always a good idea to inspect upon receipt, no matter where it came from. Even local stores where the item you picked up is still in the original box, inspect it for visible damage. Will save you a lot of grief later. A function check is also in order to possibly reveal hidden problems.

Or better yet if there is one reasonably close call there. I bet if you call Basspro and offer to send them pictures they will take care of you. They have great customer service.

Sorry to hear it was broke....but yeah always check the stuff upon receipt, and don't let the box be destroyed until you know it works, or even until the warranty is up.

FWIW my GOSM from landman was built well, and in perfect working order so far. Very happy with my purchase....hope you get yours resolved.

I was unable to return something one time because I didn't have the barcode off the box. I keep them now (the barcode) until everything works okay. Maybe it was a rebate for a printer from China Mart, can't remember.

I called Landmann and they advised to return the unit to Bass Pro.

I called Bass Pro and they stated I could return it and then they would send me a new one.

So I spent $20.00 on a big box from the UPS store, undid everything and sent it back to Bass Pro. They paid for the shipping back - which is very nice of them.

I am not sure who shipped the item to my house -- most likely UPS. However, they have a bad habit of leaving the item at my front door when no one answers. I hope to be there next time and have the delivery person wait until I get the smoker up and running (yeah right).

I guess I learned a tough lesson -- never buy something big from a store that is not in your state, and don't ruin the box!

I hope the new smoker will be here soon!!!

As for ordering out of state, I've no problem with that. When you live in little city America, most times you have no choice. I deal with reputable sources for the most part and generally have had a good success rate. It's just the nature of the beast. As for the delivery provided by the Brown Truck guys, if the package appears damaged, take pictures and immediately call the local brown truck office and file a claim.

When I got my GOSM the bottom right of the door was dented in pretty good... I fixed it back pretty well and it works just fine.

The hinge thing sucks tho! You have every right to be mad.
