Lump in my stick burner. How to?

    Well my entire load of wood that I use for my smoker is covered in ice and snow from this wonderful blast we had come thru the area in the last 24 hours. Yeah I know, "why didn't you have it covered up?" your asking yourself. Cuz I'm lazy. Then again, why does the phone ring every time you're sittin on the toilet? Because thats just the way things are LOL.

    Tomorrow I want to do a smoke, and am thinking about using some lump. I have never ever used lump, not smoking nor grillin. How do you use it? Just like briquettes? Lite it and wait till it turns grey like briquette? I really should know the answer to this, but I don't so your help is appreciated.

    You got it, just like briquets. Wait till they ash good and temps settle and your good to go. Try to find the bigger pieces and put them on the bottom and build your pile smaller to the top.

    Well Meat hunter first off I feel your pain. The storm has us all in lockdown here since yesterday afternoon. My daughter who lives 15 miles from here couldn't get here for Christmas today. However I think the worst is over.
    Funny you should ask about using the lump because I just got back inside from doing that very thing.
    I have an old style snp. I just got stir crazy from sitting in the house all day so I went out in the wind and snow and shoveled a path to the snp.
    Grabbed my chimney starter and loaded it with Royal Oak lump. Put the propane torch to a few pieces of newspaper underneath and within minutes had a nice hot chimney of lump.
    Dumped that into the smoking chamber of the snp and put bacon wrapped pork fillets on the other side.

    I took this pic about a hour ago. And just out of defiance of the storm we are having sweet corn with it!! My wife picked up some good looking ears from Florida in the store yesterday.

    Ive never used it in my Lang but ive burned a truck load in my Chargriller...Use it just like charcoal...No diff other than the meat taste beter I think....Good Luck

    Yeah we get that lake effect alot here. Sometimes good sometimes bad. She's a finicky thing. She can keep us 20 degrees cooler in the summer. You can drive 10 miles from the lake and the temp will jump 15 degrees.
    But she can be a witch in the winter. [​IMG]

    Thanks everyone, looks like that is the route I'll be going. 3montes, it looks as if you all got a bit more than we did down here. I forgot about that lake effect snow. I remember being up in Duluth a few years back, snow flakes the size of paper plates LOL. Thanks again everyone, hope everyones Christmas was Merry, and if we don't chat soon, Have a great New Year.
