My good friend, ISUTroutBum, suggested I stop here for a look. I have to say that I'm very excited to get my feet wet here. I just got the new 22" WSM and have done four smoking sessions so far. Nothing too elaborate to date. I've basically done some meat appropriate rubs and smoked away. It really doesn't take much to make meat taste fantastic on a smoker!

I've done Kingsford charcoal and either apple, cherry or mesquite smoke woods. The method I've used for burning so far is the "minion method" which I found at the Virtual Weber Bullet website...another great smoking reference, especially for WSM owners.

Spices of choice come from Penzey's, although I did win 6-8 big bottles of Weber-branded spices that seem to do the trick pretty well.

My goal now is to expand my horizons by absorbing all I can from SMF!

Welcome TK, any friend of Trouts is a friend of ours. Glad to have you here and looking forward to your input! :)

I cann't believe trout didn't tell you about the Qview. We love the pics it sometimes makes us cook more. Ok maybe not we will smoke just to smoke around here. We are that way. Welcome to your new addiction.

Hey welcome!

Don't have one myself but a lot of folks use those wsm's around here. You'll find some good mods for it if you do a search. Charcoal basket comes to mind if you don't already have one.

I saw that. As a matter of fact, I have some salmon in the freezer caught by Trout in Alaska. That might be dinner this Saturday night!

Trout's a good guy. We will have to hook up some time, with all of us in Central Iowa. If you're not a home brewer, perhaps we can convince you how easy that is, too. I'm relatively new to that game, but I'm hooked on that as well.

I was just about to give you a warm welcome but being a cyclone fan I just don't know if I can do it. HAHA

Just kidding (only kind of) welcome this place is great and in the short time I have been here I have learned more than I can imagin. I post rarely but read daily and I cannot tell you the number of small tidbits that I have walked away with to help make my smokes better. Now I ALMOST feel like I can keep up with my old man, ALMOST.

Hey duder! Welcome!! Glad you finally took the proverbial plunge!! As I mentioned to you, there are a ton of great folks on here . . . w/amazing amounts of knowledge. I've learned more on this site in the short time I've been here than I can say.
