I am somewhat new to smoking......I have helped others, but have not been 100% responsible for an entire smoke. I know I want a wood smoker and I think I have found a pretty good one for the price that will get me in the game. I found an Oklahoma Joe's Wild West Traditions smoker new in the box for $299. I will just be smoking for my family, nothing too big for now. I thought this would be a great little smoker to get me going. For the price and the quality of the construction it seems like a good deal to me. Any input would be nice to hear from you guys that are way more experienced than me. I just want in the game!!!!!!!

Thanks,

fisher

Welcome to SMF, Fisher! I looked around online and saw one for sale in Charlotte for $275 that someone bought and never used so I would say the $299 price tag would be just about right for what looks to be a great smoker!

Welcome to the group. I'd give you a year or smoking before you decide to go bigger. It never fails, once you get the bug it controls you. You'll be wanting bigger and bigger each time.

Welcome to SMF glad to have you.

A year...haha. I lasted maybe 2 months before I had to build my drum so I had something bigger.

Would you please stop into Roll Call first and introduce yourself properly. Then we can give you a fond welcome that we try to give everyone how's new here. But as far as your choice of smokers there are alot of charcoal smokers in here that will know alot about them I'm a gasser with most of mine. I do have a charcoal bandera but I'm still learning if I like it or not.

You are getting into a really demanding hobby. Now we have known subscribers they came down with a severe case of OSD. We hope you understand that this affliction is very contageous, causes a great loss of weekend time, creates more friends than you can shake a stick at and is the creator of neverending Christmas and B-day gifts!
Be sure you are ready to be the Toast of the Party , wherever you go and able to handle your friends jealousies!!!

that is a sheetmetal joes with a bolted on firebox more than likely, nothing like the old style longhorns made from 1/4 inch metal, for $450 you can get a 20 x 36 bellfab made out of heavy gauge metal, its the patio style in the picture here, not sure where you are in OK but Tulsa is calling your name
