Hello everybody,

I was looking for help finding a decent plasma cutter to cut up to 3/8" max.

Hoping to stay under $500.00. Am I dreaming? Any experienced users out there?

Thanks,

SOB

I am looking for a plasma cutter also.

That one looks good.

I was thinking of getting a Hobart one, but they are 1000 bucks.

I own a fab shop so we only use Hypertherm. They are the best but also the most expensive. I have to look at parts availability, service life, durability, etc. If you want one for a one time project one of these low end Chinese junker will probably work OK. But in my opinion a 15 yr old whooped Hypertherm will be a better investment for your money. Otherwise rent one from the local welding supply store or borrow one from a friend. Usually these cheapies don't last long.

To answer this question,

IMO, You get what you pay for. What good is a plasma cutter that is dependent on good clean air supply? Good plasma cutter and insufficient air supply don't work.

IMO, depending on how much you are going to use the plasma after you Buy it? An alternative and less expensive, is to go with a 4" cut off wheel on a hand held grinder.

You can buy a lot off cut off wheel for the price of a plasma and for something you may only use a few times? A cut off wheel, will take less time to dress your cut, over a newbie with a plasma who doesn't have the experience in how to cut a straight line.

Just trying to keep anyone from spending money for something that will eventually turn into a dust collector!  Please ask any other questions you may have, Thanks Mike

I do use and would recommend a Motor Guard air / water filter on any plasma torch....   I use one on my Hyper Therm plasma....
