Looking for new offset smoker/cooker

    Thanks for the feed back, no tax refund for me, I am self employed, I pay more than most especially here in the great state of Michigan![​IMG]

    Just looking to upgrade eventually, and It will be a ways away, just shopping for something that will last 10 years or more. I have looked at the Langs, and the Klose's, all nice stuff, even the Life Tyme's, just don't want to pay 30-40 % of the cost to shipping from Texas. I can drive to Peoria in 5 hrs, and have em toss it in my truck, or take a trailer.

    Just need to save up some money, looks like no matter what I choose, its gonna be 2,200 to 3,000 bucks. I may be selling one of my boats to make it happen, and that hits me pretty hard!

    Have them send you the CD version of their brosures, i was looking into one a while back, just have'nt got a bigger one yet, not sure if i am going to upgrade for a while now.

    I think that's the only smoker co. Ive seen that gives you the option of a 1/2 inch firebox. Pretty beefy!

    This is somewhat a newbie question but, when I clicked on the larger pictures I noticed the smokestacks are below grate level. Appearing even with firebox. Is this so heat and smoke rises, swirls around cooker than forced out bottom?

    You are correct! The smoke outlet should always be at or slightly below the cooking grate level. That is a sign of good smoker design. [​IMG]

    Yep, the one I may sell would be a 22 1/2 footer, the one I use for Lk. Mich and Erie! I am hoping to just be patient and save some money instead, we will have to see how this spring summer works out work - wise!
    Hey Busted Luck, I have been looking at the diamond plates too. I like the way that the cook doesn't have to lean over a fender to tend the food,but I don't know how portable of a smoker I really need.I like to cook around the house for friends and family, but it does raise a question about parties, tailgating, and fishing events!

    Seems nice, but haven't used one either.

    Just a thought----If you really like the Langs, but are worried about shipping costs. Call Ben and get to know him. Call him with all your questions for a week or two then pick his brain for a demo unit or some sort of "deal" he can make with you. Maybe there is a delivery in your area coming soon and you can barter with the actual guy who is hauling the unit you want. Ben sells the unit to you but all the shipping goes to the delivery guy, so timing could save you $.

    I agree though, its pretty hard to shell out $500 for a delivery:)
