Hey all,

I am doing a huge smoke for my daughters bday this weekend. Can anyone help me with how much to make? Also looking for some good recipes as I have never really done slaw before. In the past I have made it with yellow mustard and sugar base. Very good but looking for new ideas. Thank you in advance

Hello is a simple recipe from my Grandma.  Now many folks think it all has to be very complicated with 30 different ingredients.  This slaw with onion will compliment the pork and sauce extremely well.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

Danny
COLESLAW
INGREDIENTS:

1/2 HEAD GREEN CABBAGE

1/8 SMALL WHITE ONION

MIRACLE WHIP/MAYONAISE

SALT

GROUND BLACK PEPPER

DIRECTIONS:

REMOVE THE CORE FROM THE CABBAGE AND DISCARD THE CORE.  SHRED THE CABBAGE IN A FOOD PROCESSOR OR THINLY SLICE.  PUT CABBAGE INTO MIXING BOWL.  CRUSH THE CABBAGE WITH YOUR HAND TO RELEASE SOME MOISTURE.  FINELY CHOP ONION WITH MINI CHOPPER AND POUR INTO MIXING BOWL, OR GRATE THE ONION INTO THE BOWL.  USE KITCHEN TABLESPOON AND ADD 3 SPOONS OF MIRACLE WHIP/MAYONAISE.  MIX WELL.  SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE.  ADD MORE MIRACLE WHIP/MAYONAISE IF TOO DRY.  CAN MIX RED AND GREEN CABBAGE TO ADD A LITLE COLOR.

I got this from another member here...mdboatbum. I just love this s*** for something besides the mayo laden usual slaws.

ASIAN SLAW

1 bunch large green onions trimmed and thinly sliced

2 16 oz bags coleslaw mix

1 small red onion, thinly sliced

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup lemon juice

1/4 cup vegetable oil

2 T grated fresh ginger

2 T white vinegar

2 T dark brown sugar

2 tsp sesame oil

2 tsp sesame seeds

1 tsp salt

20 or so grinds of black pepper

Put everything in a large bowl and mix it up good. I like to keep it in the fridge overnight with mixing it again a couple of times and then serve the next day.

Chef, I'd love to take credit for that one as it does look REALLY good, but I don't think that one came from me. I will, however, be trying it soon!
