Hey guys, great forum you have here! I'm a total newbie and hoping to learn lots here as my only grilling experience until tonight is on a gas Sunshine grill from Australia. While it does a commendable job, cant beat the flavor on a charcoal grill, which brings me to last week...
Driving down the street, I see a grill/smoker in someone's driveway with a "take me, I'm yours" sign on it. Upon closer inspection, it looks to be in decent shape. It's gray on the outside, the paint is gone but inside it is almost perfect! I quickly loaded it up (it was heavy!) and brought it home.
After doing some research, I found that it is a New Braunfel's smoker and fairly highly sought after. I bought some hi-temp paint, some scotch brite pads and degreaser, and a universal rock grate for the side firebox.
After a couple hours of scrubbing, painting, and sanding and refinishing the wood, here's what I have. Looking forward to lots of good things off this grill, made my first attempt at chicken breasts tonight. Used lump charcoal and mesquite. Very impressed! Looking to do bigger and better things.
Thanks for all the wonderful ideas I have been reading about here. Lots of improvements to make to it!
