I just wanted to say hello to all. I am from WI and have been lurking here for a couple of months. I decided a few months ago that I'd like to take up smoking as a hobby. At the time I was just going through the final preperations for my wedding. Well, fast forward 4 months after the wedding and I fianlly had my wife convinced that I deserve a WSM 22" :) :) :)   Just as I sit down to order the WSM, she pops in the room with what looks like a white marker. It had two pink lines on it....   So NOWWWW we are expecting a baby which I am super excited about as well. She is only about 5 weeks along, and nobody really knows yet (except for this random group of strangers on this forum). This put my smoking desires on hold for a minute or two...

I told my wife that for my birthday (by June 26th) I want that WSM 22" smoker! It is the last gift I'll be getting for ME in quite some time. :)    So I am picking up an extra trip next month (I am an airline pilot) and getting my WSM!!!   Looking forward to sharing more with you all, and more importantly sharing what I learn on here with my family!  She makes fun of me now for being on these forums so much.... but once she tastes my first brisket she will see what it is all about!

Just wanted to say hello---this is an awesome group of people!

Welcome aboard brother. As you said "this is an awesome group of people!". Your wife will thank you many times over for cooking her an endless supply of great BBQ. I have a WSM 22.5 and they are great smokers. Easy to control, well built, economical & with ample space for a lot of food. I suggest you sign up for the free E-course. It will give you the basics, then just start asking questions. Good luck & congrats on the new baby.

If that WSM is gonna crimp your budget, there's always the UDS that you can build for a small fraction of the cost and they make some fine Q. Congrats to you and your wife..

O.K.,Pilot, here's what you do....gather up the little stuff you need to make a UDS and when her hormones start to get to you,go to your garage and build a smoker.

Have fun and congradtulations , and remember to,

Welcome to SMF and congrats on the baby news. Don't worry this will be just one of many sacrifices you'll make from now on but it's well worth it. As for the wife before long she'll be on here looking for info on things she wants you to smoke for her

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!  I like the UDS, don't get me wrong--I am not above a UDS :) My buddy just graduated from a UDS to the WSM 22.5" and I was beside myself when I sat there and watched that WSM hold temp for 8 hours on a COLD Wisconsin day!!   I fell in love with that thig!

I grew up down in Jacksonville, FL and BBQ was huge there. It is virtually non-existant in Wisconsin. So I am pumped to be the "smoking king" in my family. And I am going to rely on you folks on this message board here to help me along the way :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekends guys!

Props to ya, did I just say that!  Airplane came to mind.

First off welcome to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are alot of really good folks that would just love to help you with anything to do with smoking. Now we like having new folks here to give a new prospective on some of the ways we do things around here. Now if you are really new then I would suggest that you sign up fir the 5-day E-course it free and it will give you the basics on smoking and a few recipes too. Here's a link to it:

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/list/127

then you will have a method to your newly found madness and believe me it will be a madness. Then when you start smoking things you will have to learn how to post the pictures / Qview

here. So here's a link to a tutorial on how to post your Qview so we can see what your doing.

 http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/thread/82034/how-to-post-qview-to-smf

Now the next thing you have to do is run out and get something to smoke. Then just smoke it and if you have any questions just post  them here and we will answer all your questions that you might have. Oh yea there's no stupid questions we were all there in the beginning and we just really like to help others enjoy the fabulous smoked foods that we do. So again
