I really like this new system of just hitting the like button & giving credit where credit is due. I don't tell the person that I "Liked" their post, nor do I expect a thank-you for doing so. I hope there isn't a place where we can go & see who has the most likes or posts or top rated threads. And I hope that our post count & likes isn't posted in each reply we make, like the old system. It's just a lot more casual & less competitive this way. Before every post had your post count & how many points you had. The only reason this would matter is the credibility of the member. If you have 10,000 posts your opinion should be more respected than someone with 20 posts, but that person with 20 posts may be a world class chef, classically trained at the Culinary Institute. So you really don't know what kind of advice your getting if you are a newbie. Most of us that have been on here for a while know who to ask for specific questions. so we get an accurate answer. And if I don't know the answer I can usually refer the person to the proper member.
Anyhow that's just me rambling on.
By the way I did just sip on a glass of Johnny Walker on the rocks!

I like "like"better too, but that is because I haven't been here long enough to have figured out the point thing in the first place.
JW Black was my sip of choice when I was in the Army in Germany (long ago). It was $3.10 a fifth (750ml) at the PX. When I got out I could no longer afford it. A few years ago I was gifted a bottle of JW Blue. I swear that is the scotch that God drinks.

Its all in fun .. I still call em points .. points given from me is a job well done ...

Points or Likes, The things I miss the most are the "Drooling" Smiley and the "Thumbs Up" Smiley.

I see a Tasty looking Post, and all I can throw at it is a goofy smiling face??? :)

I like the old way better.
I don’t care for the new Like button it reminds me too much of “facesmack” or whatever it’s called. I think most of those folks just click on the like button so their facesmack friends don’t get pissed.

I also like having post counts, the likes and post counts aren’t competitive in my opinion but do show a commitment to the forum in some way.
I also like the date of registration posted. You can find all this info by clicking on the users name.

I liked the old point system for the newbies, you can tell they really appreciate the points and it’s a motivator. Plus you could personally expand on your points by sending a kind word, this makes it more human, than a simple click on the like button and you may want to expand on the post but do so personally one on one.
You may want to say something that you wouldn’t have put on the thread for all to see. By removing this option it looses some of the human factor and seems less sincere.

I used to love reading the comments from the person giving the points, to me, it is more sincere than just clicking a like button.

I would wholeheartedly love to see it come back.

Well Al I'm afraid I totally disagree with you on this. Far as I'm concerned the "like" is completely IMPERSONAL. With the old Point system you actually had to expend a little effort--hit the Point button and leave a personal note for the recipient. Richie @tropics once told me he enjoyed the comments as much as getting a point. I agree. I'm NOT "liking" the likes.
On the other hand I just gave sqwib sqwib a like for his comment on this thread.
I too feel that points and post count SHOULD be shown next to a member's name. It shows the member's commitment to and input to the Forum.
The new LIKE system is just too FACEBOOKISH for my tastes. And you don't want to ask me what I think about the garbage that's on Facebook.
