Hello all.

I just bought a new smoker (Masterbuilt 20075315 Front Controller Smoker with Viewing Window and RF Remote Control, 40-Inch )and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I've never smoked anything before so I'm sure the learning curve will be steep. What would be your recommendation for my first time? Anything special I should know before starting?

I've looked at a few recipes and other posts on here. Everything looks so good.

Thank in advance for all the help.

Mike

Welcome to the group Mike! Congrats on the new smoker.  I would start with some chicken or a butt.  Not too expensive and very forgiving when learning how to control temps.

Welcome to the group!  I'd agree with chicken, keeps the cook time within 3 hours for a bunch of ways to do it.  My recommendation is beer can chicken and if you pick up one of those stainless stands at the local large store it's a breeze.  Rub it down with beer can chicken seasoning available at same said large store and put a half full beer can up it's butt. 165° in the breast and yank it out.   Juiciest chicken you laid your lips on since before you bought a smoker.

Thanks everyone. I ordered a beer can stand last night. I'm going to try it out this weekend. :-)
