I have been given a Keystone model 20 meat grinder.  The kind that clamps to the table top.  There are no parts with it.  The crank, "impeller", and a cover with holes are included.  The discharge is threaded for a cap.  Is that necessary to function properly?  Any ideas on attachments?

My guess is it is a #20 sized grinder.  I would go to MeatProcessingProducts.com and look some info up.  They list outlet dia. at 3-1/4".  I assume the spacer with holes in it is a grinder plate.  A threaded cap is required to hold everything together.  You could take it to a local machine shop to see if they could make you a new threaded cap.  It will cost more than you think.  Look on eBay.  Is there sentimental value to the grinder? If not, as much as I hate to scrap stuff, I would look into a new grinder as well.

Thanks for your helpful suggestions and comments. I appreciate it. I have been looking at pictures on eBay for this grinder and they seem to all lack the "cap". I am wondering if the threaded collar accommodates some other attachment. Since I got the grinder for free I think I can afford to do a bit of research. Thank you again for your helpful comments.

If this is what you are talking about, there is a big Wing nut that holds all together...JJ

IMHO If it has no sentimental value I wouldn't waste my time with it...Good electric grinders are on sale right now for around 99 dollars.............

I have one like that also that was in my father-inlaws house when i cleaned everything out a few years ago.  I just looked at it because of this thread.  It comes with 4 plates but i dont see a knife for it.  It seems that all you have to do is put a plate on the worm and put the nut in front to fasten it. I dont see how anyone can grind with just that?  I tried looking it up and it looks like i got all the parts.  Does anyone know or has anyone ever tried to grind anything with this old grinder?  Just curious. Reinhard

Yup, the "plates" are also the"knife."
They suck for grinding meat even when in the best of shape.
Okay for making pickle relish if sharp, but that's about it.
They're very difficult to sharpen and keep sharp.
I wouldn't put any time or money into one.
