Worded as fact? Of course it's just an opinion. How was I bashing RecTec? By saying that another machine, which costs 35% more is better? I don't own either but I've seen both in action. IMO, you can't beat RecTec for value - they make a great grill at a very good price. I just found the Yoder to be more substantial.

I bought mine direct from rec-tec ,with the folding front shelf ,240 pounds of pellets and the custom cover and it was only 1500 with the price of shipping. So if it was me I'd buy direct.

I build custom homes and from time to time I advertise Free 3rd car garage...Free Patio (200 sq.ft.), Free ceiling fans(limit4), etc.  The prices of my homes are reduced accordingly.  I'm gonna eat the cost and have my margins reduced.  Hopefully I'll recoup that money by creating more sales volume and total $$$.  I don't mislead the public by bumping up the price to cover the misleading ad.

I'm with you, txBob.

The wording was misleading at best, and the response Bob got was way too glib for a serious business. Their product may be fine, but the company (or at least marketing and customer service) seems very flakey. I'd pass, too.

Bob, have you considered Green Mountain Grills? I don't own one, but the ones I've looked at seem well built, and I never see them selling second hand.

I agree the response was condescending. As for "shipping included" tricks...many sellers on ebay do it. It sucks but complaining about it is like taking your 2x4 back to home depot because is less than 2x4.

Let's not forget "add more water" experience dirtsailor had with LEM. Yet, I don't see here "take your business elsewhere" advice when it comes to LEM.

I don't own or plan to buy Rectec.

Go to outdoorcooking.com and check out the Camp Chef wood pellet smoker. The shipping is free and they even gave me a free cover, I also ordered pellets and didn't have to pay shipping there either. The quality of the unit looks good and it is very heavy. I am a newbie to smoking and just purchased this but I am happy with the purchase. Hope this helps you some

Duly noted...I wasn't trying to start anything. It appeared to me that you were dismissing RT as inferior...and you've certainly explained to my satisfaction that you weren't. Sorry if I over reacted...

A Rec Tec is a quality machine, I own one.  When you purchase one you will receive a 24x7 phone number for your use anytime you need them.  I know they answer that phone as I had to call them on Easter Sunday and they answered the phone and helped me through my issue.

No worries Red. I know folks can get pretty protective when it comes to discussions about the pits they love :)

Hey T-Bob

I agree with Red...plenty of nice units out there - RecTec and Yoder both get excellent reviews.  Can't beat the RecTec for looks.  Personally, I recently purchased (actually the Mrs gifted it to me for Father's day) a PelletPro from Smoke Daddy Inc.  Been smoking for years but this is my first go at pellet smoking.  So far nothing but good things - good value too.

From what I gathered in my research and limited experience, it's all about the PID controller.  You want something that will maintain temp within a 5 degree swing.  You can't go wrong with any of these options.

So you went to an auction site to get a better deal on something and are made because you actually did the math and realized it wasn't that great of a deal? If you buy much of anything online without comparing prices including shipping and verifying everything then you shouldn't expect the best deal. If you have a local retail dealer you can probably get a better deal with them

Got my PG500 for the same exact price I could have got it drop shipped to my house (read driveway) from the best deal online, but got an additional 100 lbs of pellets, got it set up on my deck, and the old grill taken off the deck

Exactly - I've seen this misleading advertising before, and I just move along and don't even bother asking about it. Their response would have well and truly had me in my walking shoes.

I guess it's also an indication of their company culture and to not be plain and clear up front, I would question your ability to get meaningful support from that company if you every had any issues with the grill.

The yoder will have some nice bells and whistles over the rectec depending on how you intend to use it (make sure you order a set of grill grates for direct searing). For what it's worth, both grills have pretty good reviews, so I doubt you will go wrong with either to be honest.

I agree that the misleading (lying) free shipping offer is hitting below the belt. The statememt about the Easter bunny would be enough to make me look elsewhere for a unit.

Just curious did you read the eBay auction/buy-it-now text?  I looked it up and frankly I'm not sure what's misleading about it.  Looks like a package and it's a "free shipping" item in that shipping is included and there's no additional charge for it.  Link I found: http://www.ebay.com/itm/new-REC-TEC...-free-shipping-240-pellets-incl-/130826264162

I'm just not seeing where this is coming from given the eBay ad I read and am curious to understand the others point of view.

Again I have no connection to RT and don't own any of their stuff.  My grill is a GMG.  I looked at RecTec but I'd have had to pay shipping AND sales tax, plus they didn't have a unit in the middle size that better fit my needs.

Give up. You're not gonna win. That's why I gave up.

If you read the description of item it says clearly free shipping which means to me you pay no shipping and does not mean shipping is included. Frankly I would not have purchased because like the original poster said when he added all the stuff up he was actually being charged for shipping. I just purchased a Camp Chef from Outdoor Cooking I I received free shipping and also purchased pellets and got free shipping on them. I really don't know what the argument is on the other side of the coin so to speak, free means it cost you nothing and this clearly was not free shipping.

Because you add up the prices from a different source, doesn't mean they are the same for ebay. Ebay gets a cut of anything that is sold on their site. RT nor anyone else is going to sell something direct for 10 bucks where they get all 10 dollars, then sell it on eBay for 10 and only get 9. At least no business that will be around long.

And just because the price you paid for your grill had shipping built into it don't think you got it free.

Go to the manufacturer and ask, and I bet he will sale you the same item for a cheaper price there if you pick it up

There are plenty of things you buy on ebay that sell for the listing and additional shipping is added on. But anyway I guess you guys want to keep going with this but if you read the sellers listing it does clearly say free shipping and not shipping included which is two different animals now I am done with this, I guess you think shipping included and free shipping are the same, I don't

Yes, I do. Kind of like two pints vs one quart. Different names, same result.

I'm curious to understand how there's a difference between the two. Either way I pay the same. So what's the difference?

I'm not sure where the frustration is coming from, a clear difference should be easily explained, no?
