Hello everyone.  I am a carnivore who for some reason never got into grilling.  That's all changing.  I just purchased the Char-Broil Oklahoma Joe's Triple Function grill.  I found it at Tractor Supply for $319.99 and got Lowes to price match with free assembly (was concerned about that after the fact but they did pretty good).

So I've been searching heavy on this site for weeks already and want to say thanks to all you who are so descriptive on how to do the mods.  I've already done several to seal my unit up.  Looking forward to hearing your smoker wisdom!

Good morning and welcome to the forum from a nice hot sunny day here in East Texas, and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about everything.

Thanks everyone.  I'm in Washougal, WA which is very close to Portland, OR.  I seasoned the new grill today.  I could see heat loss around the firebox and CC doors.  Had a lot of trouble getting the Cooking Chamber hot enough.  I'm new to charcoal and smoking so may not have been out of the ordinary. I had to use more charcoal than I realized.  Never got the CC over 240 by the lid Thermometer.  I tucked a couple Lavalock thermos under the lid (literally) on either side of the box.  Around 20 degrees diff side to side.  I'll try tinkering with the tuning plates (6x18 home depot steel).  Not sure if it's the arrangement or if the steel is too thin near the firebox and heat is radiating off it?? More experimenting to do!
