I have not yet purchased Jeff's recipes. I probably will eventually. I do enjoy this forum so much though that I became a "Premier Member" just to help support the site. You don't really get much for that except that warm, fuzzy feeling from doing a good thing. Glad to have "Premier Member" next to my name.
 Thanks Jeff.

Chuck

Wait, what is a premiere member? Are there added benefits or is it to help pay for the site? Either way, I am in.

First of all Jeff's rub and sauce is fantastic and it's good on everything . Secondly he is allowed to fund his site by anyway he sees fit.
And if you think $20 is a lot for something you will use and enjoy for the rest of your smoking life.. Simply DONT BUY IT!!!
No one is twisting your arm!!!

I just ordered the sauce and rub recipe and to my surprise I got the online course for free! I haven't had a chance to make the rub or sauce yet and seeing I'm a newbie...the online course was such a bonus for me!  I'm looking to get his book next, yes I'm ALL IN with my new hobby of smoking meats!

Congrats to you.  Like most of us, the rub, the recipes, the opinion of smokers, the cooking temps, and most everything here are a conglomerate of starting points for you to fine tune from.  I would be surprised if anyone who smoked something using exactly what was posted on this site tried to do the exact same thing the second smoke of the same item. We are always fine tuning.   How ever, the starting points of Jeff's Rub, Sauce, recomendations of a smoker, what wood to use, finish temperature, etc. for me at least, were far better than my hit and miss smokes I had done in the past.

This site is a trememdous wealth of information.  Now, do you like heavy smoke like we do?  Do you like a hot bite to your sauce?  Do you want your pulled pork a little chewy, or mushy?  After reading and practicing I had a great starting point to avoid just taking if off the smoker and hoping it would be what I was intending.  Now can adjust with quite a bit of proficency to achieve what I would like for each smoke.

We used a different brand of paprika one time, different taste.  Used different hickory chips one time, different taste.  One 9lb prok butt reached desired temp in 19 hrs.  Next 9lb one in exact same conditions, 24 hours.  We are not making iced tea here, we have a lot of variables.  The most important thing you want to remember, do not diviate so far from the norm that you can not stand to eat your mistakes.

Who has the best smoked BBQ in town?  The one that fits YOUR taste buds the best.  Did I mention I have different tastes at times?  Thinking about adding a little pecan to my next smoke.

Good luck to you and your smoking, and I would suspect Jeff appreciates a couple dollars to help keep this site up and going also.  The way I look at it is that I would have almost ruined way more meat than the little donation I gave for his recieps and the tremendous amount of information here if I had not found this site.  A couple dollars donation has been well worth while.

Like my old H2 Kawasaki, if it ain't smoken, its broken.

I'm new to the site. I logged in years ago but never came back only because ready to jump in back them.

I ran my first successful smoke last weekend after being on this site for a week.  I would not have been as successful if it wasn’t for this site.  The amount of information that gets offered here is mind boggling.

I’ve met people on here that have been members for 1 year and some that have been members for as much as 7 years and I’m sure there are older members.

The point to think about in my opinion is the $20 is a onetime purchase.  For those members that have been here for over 7 years, they paid $20 one time and I bet they have used this recipe countless times.  They have also used this site for information countless times.

Finally they have offered information countless times.  This all happened for $20.  I think that’s $20 very well spent.

I bought Jeff’s book this week because I heard how great it is.  I also bought it to support Jeff..  I wanted to support him and this site.  I will order the rub eventually too for the same reason.

$20 for the best cookbook in the world is worth it.  The best cookbook of all times could not have 100th the amount of information that this site offers.  Plus this site’s facts change as new things are learn n a daily basis.  WE can’t put a value on all of this.  Sorry for jumping on a soap box.  I hope I didn't go to long.

Well said Rob, well said. The book is good, especially for the new or prospective smoker and the recipes are top notch. There are two that I do at least once a month. I would highly reccomend the rub and sauce recipes for you. They are really really good.

Hi Timberjet,

Thanks for agreeing with me.

Which 2 recipes that you are referring to?  Just the names of course.  lol

As I said, I will buy the rub and sauce recipe eventually.  I've spent a bit of money lately between smokers, mod parts, charcoal, wood, new devices that I should be ordering s(MTE-733) very soon and several books.  The recipes are on the list.

Ok just a minute I will get the book out. The first one is like my favorite easy side dish now that I do in the smoker with whatever else i have in there is Christi's Cheesy Taters. The other one is basically how I make all my Chuck roast now; Dutches smoked shredded Beef enchiladas. I either use the whole recipe for enchiladas or most of the time I just do the roast that way as it is totally awesome and very simple. I always have lots of Beef around here so this is a favorite of mine. I also love Jeff's Mojo to really kick stuff up. That potato recipe should be in everyones personal side list in my opinion. Don't forget about Dutch's Wicked Baked Beans, which is on this website. Best bean recipe out there. period. I know that was more than two. hahaha....

The recipes sound expensive, but after buying and using them. I would much rather have the money I spent on all my other runs and sauces back. I had never found a recipe that matched or surpassed the premium commercial products, until I tried his rub/sauce, they far surpass any commercial product, I have definitely saved more than 20$ by making this rub myself. No more throwing out bad tasting rub/sauce that I didn't quite get right and no more paying a premium mark up for commercial products.

Hi Gibsorz

Yes buying ingredients in small quantities in supermarkets can appear to work our quite expensive however if you look online and buy the main common ingredients in bulk then they usually work out very reasonable. And as you say once you have found a recipe that you like and have tweaked, it will surpass any commercial product. It is great that you are making your own

Very true, especially if you are paying McCormick mark ups. I have a local spice store where I can buy everything bulk, or at costco as well.

I'm definitely a big fan of the rub and the sauce. The great thing besides the taste is he keeps it simple. I'm not a fan of complex recipes or unusual ingredients. I have modified the recipe to match my cooking style and taste, but the base is still there. If you buy a bottle of rub and a bottle of bbq sauce, you're already at $10. Spend another $10, you won't be sorry.:sausage::yahoo:

I just smoked all of the meat for a wedding reception and received compliments from every person there.  I used Jeff's rub and sauce.  Several people told me that it was the best pulled pork that they had ever had.  I owe all of this to Jeff, and it was the best $20.00 I ever spent.  Thanks Jeff.  You will never go wrong using his recipes.

I look at it as a $20 investment so I don't have to see the add to buy it in his newsletter.  Worth the $20 there.  Plus, you get 2 rub recipes, rib rub and Texas rub.  Both are top notch rubs in my opinion.  I always have his sauce in the fridge - goes with everything.  Definitely gives mine a run for the money.  Problem is, mine isn't written down so the quality is inversely proportional to the amount of beer I drank before I started making it.

LOL - I have done that before but I must admit that I am much more careful these days and record everything.

At the time it is being made... Slurp... Glug... "Oh well, there isn't much chili left in the packet - I may as well add it all"

When the meat is ready... "AAGGHH OMG - well that certainly made my eyes water !!! - Someone pass the yogurt !!!

Just whipped up a double batch of the Q sauce, I only use half of the pepper and cayenne in it and it is still quite hot when it ages for a couple days. I use it like katsup, hence why I put it straight back in the Heinz bottle (plus a half Mason jar for the leftover rub.

I'm thinking about buying the recipes but I don't like hot or vinegar based stuff. I like sweet stuff. Does Jeff's have a lot of heat or vinegar in them?

If you say I can leave those ingredients out then what is the point of paying 20 bucks for something then changing it.

It would be nice if Jeff would put his two special recipes in the book along with all the other recipes.

I haven't tried the sauce but the rub isn't hot at all.
