Weatherman said yesterday a polar cold front was supposed to push thru here. I know I giggled too! I stocked on human anti-freeze, and made this.

#12 dutch oven filled with cold weather comfort food!

I didn't have suet, I chopped up and rendered the last of last years bacon trim.

So it's not just chili, its chili with a smokie bacon taste.

This time its the original recipe, no deviations from the recipe.

Here's the recipe:

Where is that cold front? Some one up there close the gate?

Hello Kevin.  Man that looks good.  Got that recipe saved.  Have you made it from smoked brisket and smoked pork ( maybe even left over ) or do you usually just use the trimmings and start cooking in the DO?  I made a pot of chili Monday but I didn't have everything AND I was in the middle of watching a movie.  No matter, I have done this enough times it'll be FINE!.  I can't put my finger on exactly why ( I really think it's for many reasons ) but that is the worst pot of chili I have ever made!

Can't hardly force myself to eat it but I don't want to even give it to my dog.  If I could get it over here I'd have been better off with a can of Hormel or Wolf Brand!  Oh well!  My own fault.  If everything came out perfect I'd turn pro and give those TV chefs some competition.  Keep Smokin!

Thanks Danny

Last weekend my butcher called and asked for my recipe becuase she had been told at work she was representing the store in on of those local taste of La benefit thingies. She'd never never made chili and that was the recipe she drew.

There are no awards or trophies but she EMailed a thank you, and said she cooked 2 each #14 Dutch ovens, and ran out of food before any other booth. She said everyone wanted her recipe and she held true to the deal, she wouldn't share.....LOL  I kind of doubt she didn't share it.

She gave me a good deal on some meat and I decided to make chili myself.

BUT it's supposed to be cold! Where's the cool?

My wife and were just talking about making a big pot chili! Looks great Kevin!

As far as the weather, yeah it's a bit off here too. 65 degrees today. We had two freezes which put the garden under, thank goodness! I was getting tired of eating tomatoes! Still getting raspberries and there's 3 small artichokes on one plant right now. Both the raspberries and artichokes are mulched in good and unless we get a week of freezing weather they'll be producing for ever!

Thanks case...... Its definately time for it....... was supposed to be in the low 60's today, instead it was near 80 and drizzly.

I didn't know that about artichokes or raseberries. My dewberries and blackberries die off every year then start off fresh next spring, I might add they are near impossible to get rid of!

They run along that chain link fence for about 20 yards. And now they have left the fence on the other side and are about 10 15 ft. in the corral.

Can you see the fence in the background? LOL

I don't think I have ever gotten blackberries off them, maybe a handfull in passing. But the birds and all the neighbors and thier kids like 'em I think.

Raspberries are east to contain, so are artichokes! Your blackberries look tame! Come on out and visit the left coast! Blackberries here eat houses, properties and towns!

As always looks good Foam glad I only have to wait a few more hours. Rrrrr stomach
