Is sams a cheap enough place to buy? What should I be paying?

i think I just paid 1.57/lb I believe for some butts.  The thought came to mind to check with local butchers but not sure if they would really have any better price on this sort of thing but maybe.  Also wanting to consider other meats like spares, beef briskets, etc.

Sale Price here is .99 lb . Usual winter price is $1.19 lb .usual summer price is $1.39 - $1.59 lb.  I also buy meat when on sale and freeze for later smoking.

If you have iga grocers or associated grocers in your area check their prices . The ones in my area beat sams prices by a good bit.

One neat thing about Sam's is that you are able to buy in case quantities for a cheaper price.  If you have some smoking buddies, you can get together and split a case.

I buy meat at Sam's all the time as they are usually the best price that is unless one of the local grocery stores is having a sale and in that case I will buy a whole bunch and freeze them for later use. I usually try to keep my eye open for sales so but if I am just running out to buy meat last minute and there isn't a flier from a local store then I know Sam's is my best bet.

Smoke have you checked out Leblanc's??? They have great quality and usualy beat sams prices.

I prefer sam's to my local grocer's pork butts and ribs. Sam's cryo meats don't contain the 10% salt solution that the Hormel and other brands I see at my grocery store.

What about other meats such as spares and beef brisket and back ribs?

Eman,

Yea man, Leblanc's is a great grocery store.  The one in Walker has some beautiful beef shoulder roasts on sale right now.  I bought about 20 lbs worth on Sunday.

I don't buy baby back ribs, so cant answer that one... lol.

Spares I get for $1.99 per. lb. at Costco, two full slabs cryopacked, always good consistant quality.

Brisket I get for $1.79 per. lb. at a local resteraunt supply store called Cash and Carry. Really good quality and nice 13-15 lb. full packers.

Butts I buy at a local big mart called Winco Foods, they usually have them for $0.99 or $1.19, and they are bone in (which I prefer) with good consistant quality.

I know this is an old post, so not sure if anyone will read this. I live in mid Mo. and butts are anywhere from 2.29 to 2.79 per lb. Two years ago I was getting them for .99, sometimes on sale for even cheaper. I see in other parts of the country they are still running around .99. I wonder why butts got so expensive in mid Mo. Is there anyone out there in the mid Mo. area getting them cheap. I like to smoke about 30 lbs at a time (all my wsm will hold), but averaging $75 a load for just the butts is pretty expensive for 15 lbs. of finished product. It actually comes out to around $6 a lb. when I add in rub ingredients and charcoal. I hope someone sees this and has some good news about prices.

Man, if I could find butts at 99 cents I'd buy a new freezer.  Best bet is Sams and last time I bought them they where over 2 bucks a pound
