Good day all from the Southern Hemisphere, to be precise, South Africa! My real name is Peter and I live in Blouberg which is a suburb of Cape Town in the Western Cape, said by the seafarer Sir Francis Drake to be "The Fairest Cape" of them all". Some of you may know, Barbecue (or Braai as it is called locally) is a national pastime here. Smoking meat is not as common but is something I discovered some years ago during one of my visits to the USA. Since then I have been hooked!
My first venture into smoking meat personally involved a (very old) Weber Kettle which has worked well for many years. Then a year ago I purchased a Weber Smokey Mountain 18.5" which has been a great purchase. This smoker now works every weekend.... Beef, pork, mutton, chicken and fish, you name it. My next venture will be (again) into sausage (named boerewors locally) which I very successfully ventured into during a 7-year work assignment in Saudi Arabia a few years ago, but stopped as it is readily available in the shops here. I am very much looking forward to reading others, and sharing my experiences.
