Going to make the trip to Athol today to pick a few 55 gallon food grade drums. Need to call "Mike the Stripper", a neighbor who has some sort of high dollar "dustless" media blaster about stripping the paint off of it for me. Was going to buy a kit to build the UDS with but have decided against that, jut going to use several of the ideas that I have found on here. Have some expanded metal in the garage...along with some 11 gauge sheet, just need to pick up some angle iron and something to use as a handle and the fire bucket will be taken care of. I have a DigiQDX2 that I use on the BGE when cooking low and slow on it. Planning on just getting the necessary adapter to use it on the 3/4" black pipe that will be used for the intake. Which finally leads me to my question....At what point, either from the top or bottom of the drum, are the intakes installed? Would think that if they were to low, depending on the size of the fire basket and the amount of time the fire is lit, that you may run into a problem with ash choking off the intake. Should the intakes be mounted just above the bottom of the fire basket? How much space is required between the bottom of the fire basket and the ash pan on the bottom?
