I am thinking of replacing my fire box with a new insulated version. I guess I am one of those guys who always likes to improve or modify things. My smoker works and cooks great, so why mess with it ?  I was thinking I could make it more fuel and cook efficient. My smoker is an RF. Here is what I was thinking. inner box 20" x 20" x 20"  1/4 " plate  Outer box 22" x 22" x 22"  with 3/16" top, bottom and sides 1/4" in back and front. About an 18" x 18" cut out for door in front. Door out of 3/8"  and use 2" insulation in between

Not positive, just kicking it around. We are going to start on a new smoker pretty soon, may just incorporate the firebox idea into the new smoker.

Anyone else made this type mod? if so please give me feed back

Thanks

We have some 1" x 2' x 4' Mineral Wool bats  thought we would just double up

gary, do you have an upper air inlet in your firebox now...  about the height of the FB/CC opening ...    that saves on fuel and helps with temp control...

My air inlet (damper) is in my F. B. door about 1/3 to 1/2 way up. I have a 3 round hold pattern.
